Mystery and suspense writer Carol Kilgore lives on the South Texas coast with her husband and a whiz-kid border collie. The Texas coastline and its people hold a special charm for her, a fascination she brings to life in many of her stories. In the years between growing up in Houston and moving to Corpus Christi, she has lived in several locations across the country, from Miami to New York to New Mexico, and points in between.
More than a dozen of Carol's short crime fiction stories have been published. In addition, she's published numerous essays, profiles, and travel articles. She is currently at work on a thriller involving . . . well, she can't tell you that, now can she?
In June 2000, Carol's story "Just a Man on the Sidewalk" won the Derringer Award for the Best Short-Story Mystery of 1999. This story was published by MysteryNet.com in March, 1999. Links to a few of Carol's stories are available on the Other Short Works page.
When she's not writing, Carol likes to walk on the beach and watch sunsets from her patio. She often leaves her husband shaking his head at the mysteries she spots around her . . . the drug deal between two soccer moms at the gas station, the shell man on the beach who's in witness protection, the clandestine meet at the super pet shop. Each shake of his head means there's a story in it for her.
Carol is a member of Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, and the Short Mystery Fiction Society.
